Up next in our Meet the Team series is Dom Harness. With more than three decades of automotive experience, from his early days as a technician to senior programme roles with brands including Stellantis, Bentley Motors, and now Nissan, Dom brings an invaluable blend of hands-on technical expertise and strategic leadership to QUBE. As the lead for the Nissan Trade Direct programme, he’s dedicated to helping dealers grow their trade business, strengthen customer relationships, and keep performance moving in the right direction. Let’s get to know him a little better…
Can you tell us about your role at QUBE?
I lead the Nissan Trade Direct programme at QUBE, supported by a field team of four Trade Performance Managers who deliver Trade parts sales across the dealer network. My role is to set direction, provide the tools and data they need, and keep the programme evolving to meet dealer and manufacturer expectations. At its core, it’s about helping dealers grow their trade business, strengthen customer relationships, and keep Nissan parts front of mind in the market.
What is your experience in the automotive industry?
I’ve spent over 30 years in the automotive industry, starting as a technician. From there I progressed into Aftersales Management, then consultancy, which gave me a broader view of how brands and dealer networks operate. That path led me into senior programme roles, with eight years at Stellantis, time at Bentley Motors, and now Nissan Trade Direct at QUBE. Having come through the workshop into management and programme delivery, I bring both hands-on technical knowledge and strategic insight into dealer performance.
How has your journey with QUBE been so far?
Fast-paced, rewarding, and refreshing. QUBE’s agility means we can move quickly to support both clients and the dealer network. The highlight has been building and leading the Trade Performance Manager team, seeing them deliver results on the ground. It’s also given me the chance to apply my past experience while still learning new approaches, which keeps things moving forward.
What was it about QUBE that made you want to get involved?
Two things stood out. First, QUBE’s advanced data system. I’ve never seen anything like it in the industry, the level of detail, organisation, and real-time insight is a game-changer. It allows decisions to be based on fact, not instinct.
Second, the culture. Many companies talk about brand ethics, but at QUBE it’s lived every day, in how people work with each other and with clients. The combination of cutting-edge data and genuine values made it an easy decision to join.
What would you say you enjoy most about your job?
The variety and the impact. One moment I’m working on strategy, the next I’m supporting the team or reviewing performance with clients. I get real satisfaction from seeing the Trade Performance Managers succeed with dealers, knowing the programme is helping them grow. The mix of leadership, problem-solving, and tangible results keeps the role rewarding.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
I enjoy watch collecting and building, which gives me a real appreciation for detail and craftsmanship. Photography is another passion, especially when travelling or finding new perspectives in daily life. More recently I’ve taken up Tai Chi and Tibetan meditation, which help me stay focused and balanced. And when it’s time to chill, I’m a keen sci-fi fan and never miss a good dystopian film.
Describe yourself in 10 words or less
Strategic leader, curious problem-solver, always learning and evolving.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
The ability to see into the future. Foresight would sharpen decision-making, help anticipate market shifts, guide the team through change, and maybe even pick the winning lottery numbers.
What was the last title of the last TV programme or film you watched?
Terminal List – Dark Wolf).
Tell us something that’s on your bucket list
To photograph Earth from space. The idea combines exploration and sci-fi with my passion for photography. To do it wearing an original Omega Speedmaster from the Apollo missions would be the ultimate finishing touch.
What’s been the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Your success is only as strong as your team. They may be responsible for delivering results, but as the leader you are accountable if the team falls short. That mindset keeps me focused on giving them the tools, guidance, and support they need, because their success is our collective success.”
Finally, what is one thing you would like readers to know about yourself that they might not know already?
“I tend to hyper-focus on new hobbies. When I take something up, I want to know everything about it and often must build it into the complete collection or project. At work, I consciously temper this tendency, following Voltaire’s idea that ‘the best is the enemy of the good’ because in business, chasing perfection can stall progress, delay decisions, and stop teams moving at the right pace.”
